Today, 8 November, is World Ventil8 Day. A day which aims to raise awareness of the importance of ventilation as a crucial part of enabling health and wellbeing of people.
World Ventil8 Day
FläktGroup celebrates World Ventil8 Day by shining a spotlight on the importance of effective ventilation and what it means to our people. This year’s theme for World Ventil8 is “Enabling Action”. Everyday FläktGroup products improve indoor air quality around the world. For more than 100 years FläktGroup have been striving to improve indoor air quality for all. In line with this commitment, we want to explore what it means to enable action and how each of us can make a difference.
Why World Ventil8 Day Matters?
Good ventilation is key to promoting healthier, safer, and more productive environments. It is often overlooked but there is now a rising awareness around indoor air quality and its link to health, so there is no better time than World Ventil8 Day to focus on the benefits of an effective ventilation system. Poor indoor air quality can contribute to respiratory issues, affect productivity, and lower overall comfort. By raising awareness and enabling action, we aim to improve the air we breathe in numerous applications such as in schools, workplaces and hospitals.
Understanding the Power of Ventilation
World Ventil8 Day encourages us to appreciate ventilation role in many ways:
- Enhancing Indoor Air Quality: Proper ventilation reduces indoor pollutants and CO2 levels, making indoor environments healthier and more comfortable
- Energy Efficiency: Innovative ventilation solutions can improve energy efficiency reducing costs and carbon footprint
- Supports Well-being and Productivity: Clean, fresh air is proven to enhance one’s performance, mood and overall well-being
- Fire Safety: Ventilation plays an important role in smoke extraction, making sure that if a fire breaks out it will help to minimise the amount of smoke in the area
- Critical Applications for Ventilation: Ventilation systems play a crucial role in a variety of different applications. They help to ensure safety, comfort and efficiency in those environments where air quality and temperature control are paramount.
What do the experts think?

Graham Hordern - Product Marketing Manager
We have such a wide array of expert people working at FläktGroup each with their own varying set of skills and talent. Graham Hordern whose focus is on our centralised controls, is very passionate about the HVAC industry.
“As someone who has come from a different industry, I find it all still very fascinating even after nearly 10 ten years. Having quality clean air delivered to any part of a building is extremely important to our well-being but it is something that pre the pandemic we all pretty much took for granted. So now more than ever it is important we help building owners, designers and building users achieve the right indoor climate. Being responsible for the controls of these localised air delivery product controls is exciting and satisfying knowing we can do this extremely well and without increasing the energy consumption of the building. These are exciting times with the need to save energy, our controls can help customers do this without breaking the bank and this is what gets me up in the morning.”
When it comes to our centralised controls Graham is certainly the expert as he talks about our industry leading control system FläktEdge.
“FläktGroup is an innovative company which means we are always looking forward. Our controls have been designed to meet the highest requirements for energy efficiency at the product level (room/zone), at a floor level and now with FläktEdge the whole building. In Europe the Energy performance Building Directive exists and now we have the UK net zero carbon building standard pilot (UKNZCBS) both of which emphasise the need to reduce operational energy use on a day-to-day basis. Our product controls have been designed to meet the requirements of these standards, offering the customer demand control ventilation with occupied and unoccupied modes, presence detection and built-in schedule to ensure the best energy efficiency in a room or space.”
“Our FläktEdge centralised control solution offers a full building ventilation monitoring, measurement and control solution. FläktEdge helps achieve these strict new standards for new and existing buildings. How? Well one way is by reducing the air flow and pressure in the ventilation duct. This reduces the output required from the air handling unit which reduces the energy demand. This is an important element in achieving targets for net zero of fossil fuel usage, especially when 40% of a buildings energy usage is from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), equipment. This provides our customers with smart demand control ventilation further enhancing the energy savings whilst not impairing the air quality. In a nutshell, we help buildings meet directives for lowering fossil fuel usage in buildings whilst ensuring the indoor climate is optimised for use.”

Silas Bäuerle – Director: Digitalization and Service products
“The HVAC industry is a major contributor to deliver a comfortable environment for buildings all over the planet. While being a conservative industry for decades, business models and the technology as such are now at a certain degree of majority that the impact will drive improvement in many ways. Especially improving the environmental footprint by demand-controlled air handling equipment and extended life cycles including less traveling from a service perspective are interesting perspectives.”
Reducing environmental impact in buildings has always been an important goal for us and we always strive towards building a better quality of indoor building ventilation solutions.
“For me the most interesting part, at the moment, are expectations for the HVAC future. Remote access, cloud technologies and at some point, the optimization using AI are going to influence the industry massively. The landscape of solutions will look a lot different 20 years from now. Putting this development into the focus of current product management, equipment needs to be designed including features that make it easy to connect and adapt to the technologies of the future.”
